When to Obtain Plenary Indulgences at Our Basilica
Marian Feasts and Celebrations:
- January 1 – Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God
- August 15 – Solemnity of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary
- September 8 – Feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary
- December 8 – Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary
Days Related to the Church's Title and Consecration:
- May 2 – Feast of the Transfer of St. Norbert's Relics (designated by the Archbishop)
- June 6 – Solemnity of St. Norbert, Founder of Our Order
- August 15 – Titular Pilgrimage Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary
- 3rd Sunday in September – Solemnity of the Dedication of the Church
- November 6 – Day of the Church's Elevation to a Minor Basilica
Days Associated with the Service of the Roman Pontiff:
- February 22 – Feast of the Chair of St. Peter
- March 13 – Anniversary of the Election of Pope Francis
- June 29 – Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles
- November 9 – Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica (Cathedral of the Roman Bishop)
Personal Pilgrimage
Each pilgrim may choose any day to visit the Basilica and obtain plenary indulgences.
Conditions for Obtaining Indulgences
General Requirements:
- Detachment from all sin.
- Sacramental confession.
- Reception of Holy Communion.
- Prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father.
Participation in Communal Acts
- Holy Mass
- Liturgy of the Hours (Morning Prayer at 6:30 AM, Prayer with Readings, Evening Prayer at 5:00 PM or 7:30 PM on Sundays)
- Stations of the Cross (during Lent)
- Rosary Prayer (in May and October)
Personal or Communal Devotion
Eucharistic Adoration, for an appropriate duration, concluded with the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and a Marian prayer.
Additional Opportunities for Plenary Indulgences
- Works of Corporal Mercy: (feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked, welcoming strangers, caring for the sick, visiting prisoners, burying the dead)
- Works of Spiritual Mercy: (advising the doubtful, teaching the ignorant, admonishing sinners, consoling the sorrowful, forgiving offenses, bearing wrongs patiently, praying for the living and the dead)
- Acts of Penance:
- Demonstrating a penitential spirit, especially on Fridays, through:
- Abstaining from unnecessary distractions (both real and virtual).
- Fasting or abstinence in various forms.
- Offering an appropriate financial donation to the poor or those in need (e.g., collections for the defense of life, care for abandoned children, troubled youth, the elderly, the lonely, or migrants).
- Volunteering for community service.
