The Strahov Monastery compound is among the most visited monuments in Prague. To maintain its beauty for future visitors, we ask you to follow these rules. Thank you.

To keep the area in beautiful condition, it is necessary to follow the visitors' rules.

Visitor Rules of Strahov Monastery Compound

Strahov Monastery is a spiritual center, a precious legacy of our ancestors, and a unique cultural monument. All visitors are warmly welcomed. We kindly ask you to respect the special character of this place through your behavior, protect it, and during your visit, act with dignity and consideration in accordance with safety, hygiene, fire safety, and other generally binding legal regulations, customary rules of civil coexistence, and these visitor rules of the compound.

Owner of the Compound

The owner of the compound is the Royal Canonry of Premonstratensians at Strahov, ID No. 00415090, located at Strahov Courtyard 132/1, 118 00 Prague 1 (hereinafter referred to as “the owner”).

Entry and Access to the Compound

The owner reserves the right to close visitor facilities and the entire compound for operational, technical, security, or other important reasons. Entry into the compound is possible only with the owner's permission. It is forbidden to ride bicycles, scooters, tricycles, Segway vehicles, etc., within the compound.

ENTRY TO THE COMPOUND IS PROHIBITED
  • With weapons, explosives, and other similarly dangerous objects,
  • With banners, billboards, and advertising signs,
  • In heavily soiled clothing,
  • To persons in a visibly inebriated state or under the influence of narcotic and psychotropic substances.
Conditions of Using the Space in the Compound

Organizing gatherings unrelated to the visit to the monastery or conducting musical, singing, theatrical, or other performances or mass events is only possible with the prior permission of the owner. Selling any goods, distributing promotional items or printed materials, conducting any promotion, or requesting monetary or other support is only allowed with prior permission from the owner. It is forbidden to damage objects, collections, gardens, and any other property of the owner in the compound.

PARTICULARLY PROHIBITED
  • Writing or painting on walls or otherwise damaging objects in the compound,
  • Walking on lawns equipped with chains and outside marked paths, damaging greenery,
  • Allowing dogs to roam freely and entering visitor facilities with them,
  • Touching exhibited items and walls in the interiors,
  • Eating and drinking inside visitor facilities, entering them with ice cream, drinks, etc.,
  • Smoking or handling open fire inside visitor facilities,
  • Entering visitor facilities with bags and backpacks exceeding A4 size. A storage area for oversized items is located at the monastery's cash desk at the main entrance.

In the Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, tours are not possible during services. Please do not disturb the sacred silence of the church with noise, loud talking, singing, playing musical instruments, etc. It is forbidden to disturb the peace and order in the monastery compound or to endanger the safety and health of persons in any way.

Please note that to protect visitors to the compound, cultural monuments, and art collections, the outdoor and indoor spaces of the monastery compound are monitored by a camera system. Visitors are required to follow the instructions of authorized staff and representatives of the monastery. In case of prohibited, inappropriate, or disrespectful behavior, it is possible to be expelled from the monastery compound.

Documentation of events within the premises

In the event that a holy mass, another religious ceremony, or a cultural or other public event takes place in the Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary or elsewhere within the premises of the Strahov Monastery, owned by the Royal Canonry of Premonstratensians at Strahov (hereinafter referred to as "the Canonry"), the visitor acknowledges by their participation that photo or video documentation may be taken during the event.

This documentation may be used to fulfill the legitimate interests of the monastery and parish, particularly for purposes of promoting the event, providing information about the event, etc., on the website, social media, printed materials, etc. The photo/video documentation will primarily be taken to capture the atmosphere and overall course of the event rather than individual persons. If the visitor has any objections to this (or to a specific published photo/video), they may contact the designated person.
