The collection of glass negatives, originally created for commissioned photographic projects as well as personal interest, was later supplemented by series of glass slides. A significant portion of these consists of commercial thematic sets used for catechetical and educational purposes. The collection comprises several thousand items.
Under Call No. 0241/2022: Digitization of Cultural Assets and National Cultural Monuments I, part of the National Recovery Plan – Cultural and Creative Sector Digitization Initiative (administered by the Czech Ministry of Culture, Museums and Galleries Department), the project titled "Digitization of the Glass Photograph Collection" (registration number 0342000082) was submitted. Currently, 2,500 selected items are being digitized. The user interface for accessing the digital collection is expected to be available by the end of the year.
Researchers can look forward to unique images depicting life in the first half of the 20th century, locations in Prague, as well as photographs from other parts of the Czech Republic and abroad. In addition to digitization, the project will also result in the inventorying and appropriate conservation storage of the collection.
This database, containing a portion of the digitized collections of the Strahov Premonstratensian Monastery, is being created thanks to support provided from the Czech state budget for 2024.
